Explore East Bali

If you want to discover the culture and nature of the island… East Bali!

East Bali is a great place to visit and stay, especially if you want to discover the culture and nature of the island. East Bali is also referred to as the ‘Authentic Bali’. It is a mystical part of Bali with a beautiful green landscape dominated by the volcanoes the Agung and the Batur. Beautiful temples and palaces, beautiful beaches and the greenest rice fields. Below an overview of the most important temples, palaces, villages and most beautiful beaches in East Bali, which can easily be visited from your holiday villa in East Bali.

Besakih Temple

The Pura Besakih is the largest and most sacred temple in Bali, it is also called “the mother temple”. This temple is located on the slopes of the Gunung Agung and this means that here too you have to reckon with a considerable walk to reach the temple. This temple is the spiritual center of the island, it is a huge complex that consists of more than 200 structures. The site is where the first holy revelation was received by Rsi Markendya. The pioneer of Balinese Hinduism.

This makes Besakih the first Hindu temple ever built in Bali and also the holiest. Pilgrims of all castes come from every corner of Bali to pray and take part in various religious ceremonies at the temple.

Very impressive and definitely worth a visit!

The Tirta Gangga water palace was built in 1947 as a country retreat for the former king. It is a garden with a kind of sacred pond where there are statues spouting water. Between the statues and the tiles in the pond swim large carp. It is touristy, but well worth visiting.
